What will happen to a baby duck left behind because it was born with a bad leg?
My grandkids found a little baby duck with a deformed leg. I guess its mother left it behind because it could not keep up. My grandkids brought it home. I need to know how to take care of it. Please help me.
Is there an animal rescue clinic where you live? Or perhaps an animal shelter? If not please follow these instructions.
First, find a box of some sort to put the ducking in. Place straw or hay on the bottom of the box. (Any wet spots, please remove daily)
Try to get a nice warm heat source on the duckling. When feeding, use unmedicated chick starter or duck starter. Baby ducks can also be given fruits and vegetable, but these must be chopped really fine as baby ducks do not have teeth. They also enjoy small insects and worms. Also, leave a source of water for them. If you can, fill your tub with only about a few inches of water. He will like that.
