Brown Lovey
Pony Help??
I have 1 year old Haflinger Draft Ponies. Lovey (the brown one) I can come up to, put a lead on her, and walk her around. KC is very scitterish (apparently she was picked on by bigger horses before I got her). Today a managed to get her lead on her and she let me pet her but only because she wasn’t able to get away. I tried to walk with her but we only got a couple of steps in and she put on the brakes! I tried to tug but she didn’t budge. I didn’t do much more than that because I wasn’t really sure what/how to proceed. The look in her eyes is that she is terrified. I don’t want her anymore terrified than she is but I also need to work with her so she isn’t affraid. I am taking both to a pasture where they can graze so their pasture can regrow and I plan to panel off a section so I can work with KC, but how?
What is my next step?
you are asking for help halter breaking them???
you need to pull them side ways rather than forward.. this puts them off balance so they are forced to take a step..
NEVER release them after a fight.. if they resist and you are ready to stop.. just ask for ONE step.. then let them go..
every time you ask for a step and get it.. slack off on the rope..
get help building a small corral..
