Would you comment on a horticultural poem, of sorts?
Arbors and Fences

The framework was always there
Strong as oak
Standing alone to guard an Eden
Strange how things take root and grow
on fences, on arbors, in gardens.
The crimson pain of Bleeding Hearts
and Jasmine scented words…
From where? What caused sweet Wisteria
to climb, or the rage of scarlet
Bougainvillea to cascade madly
or Morning Glory pastel to
trumpet the dawn?
All gardens need arbors and fences,
all that bloom need support.
Seeded from the world
Words germinate in this
wild garden of hidden paths,
the unexpected beauty of prickly patches
that reveal sweetness when
thorns are braved.
A double whammy…..for me a ‘garden’ poem works every time when written so beautifully and then the question. Is the world better because it has boundaries, and challenges and ‘prickly patches’?
I agree. Anarchy in the world and in a garden leads to survival of the fittest (though usually not the most worthy). A garden left unchecked becomes a tangle of weeds, and a world without boundaries becomes host to evil deeds….hang on a minute ‘I’m a poet and don’t know it’
