why and how to get rid of blue-green Mould on furniture?
Currently renting a flat, and in one of the bedrooms (which has a small ensuite bathroom) the chest of drawers is growing a lot of green-blue mould on top and behind it, then looking closer we found the same mould growing on the frame panels under the bed.
Its awful.. has anyone got a solution to why this mould is growing and how to get rid of it?
I am relatively sure the mold is not one of the 16 species known to be toxic. If it was, you would be sick by the time the build up is enough to notice.
That means that you don’t need to toss the chest. Just clean with a light bleach mixture to dissolve the mold on it. When it is dry, wax with a good furniture polish.
For mold to grow, there must be moisture. Mold can’t grow without moisture. Growing on the bed frames and chest indicates that the problem is lack of ventilation. The moisture is being trapped inside the room and causing condensation on things of different temperatures.
To prevent a regrowth, you need to ventilate the room and keep the temperatures in the room constant. If the room gets warm in the day and cold at night, condensation will form and allow mold to grow.
