Please recommend videos and toys to learn blending phonics?
My little boy knows the sound of all the alphabets. I am just thinking of introducing him with blending phonetic sounds but at the same time enjoy the learning through play. I have researched about some toys and vids for learning how to blend phonics. These are:
VTech V-Reader
Leapfrog Word Whamer
Hooked on Phonics (videos)
Would appreciate other suggestions. Thanks a lot.
This skill works best with people vs. toys. Repetition repetition 
We have LeapFrog Word Whammer and yes, they do enjoy that. They get the best benefit from an older child or an adult there to facilitate and reinforce the sounds.
The 3 letter word puzzles are great too as they typically use the CVC (consonent-vowel-consonent) words and the sounds are pretty consistent.
My beginner reader benefited from LeapFrog Learn to Read: Storybook Factory DVD.
Starfall.com may be beneficial to you as well.
Have letter beads to lace to make a simple CVC word that is pictured is another way to practice. At the beginning you can show them the card, say the objects name (ex: cat); state the letters on the beads (c-a-t). Now have your child put them on as you help him say the correct sounds. /c/ /a/ /t/. Spreading it out on the lace saying each sound seperately and then squishing them together to make the word /c-a-t/.
The book Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons by Siegfried Engelmann might be just the book for you. I used it with 2 of my children and with 2 preschool students who were ready to begin reading. It can be dry so I made my own activities to go with the lessons but it’s great for a guideline. Both of my sons ended up at the 1st grade level for reading (which is what they advertise) prior to Kindergarten. The visual for blending sounds together works well and they start with the most common letters and sounds.
