Speaking of weaning kids off pacifiers, what way worked for you?
I have a 21 month old and he loves his pacifiers. He has 3 or 4, that we keep in his crib. He carries at least one of them around with his puppy which we call his lovey. I have heard if you prolong it, it can mess up their teeth and I know it’s about time to start weaning him off it. He really loves them though so i’m not sure what to replace his pacifier with that will soothe him when he’s upset. His lovey works but he always wants paci with it.
Should i wait until he’s 2 and has better speech and is a little more out of his baby phase and more into a toddler phase or should i just start weaning him off now? I’ve also heard that pacifiers can delay speech and make kids mumble more. He does mumble a lot but i think that’s apart of learning to talk, his speech isn’t completely clear yet but he still can say quite a lot and i can understand more than half of it.
What worked for you? What do you think?
My daughter is 22 months and she only ever got a pacifier during naps/bedtime and in the car. 2 months ago we cut out the car. She still asks for it but we tell her that it doesn’t go in the car anymore. We’re working on the naps now. We tuck her in and leave, if she asks for it she can have it, but we don’t mention it. We’ll soon just tell her something like “your baby brother needs them more than you do, so we’re going to give them to him”. She’s pretty laid back though, I can’t see it being too much of an issue. We’ve been prolonging it though because it really hasn’t caused a problem with her teeth or speech since she doesn’t get it all the time anyway.
