When the wicked witch in the book the wonderful wizard of oz looked into her crystal ball. what did she see?
I want to create some art of the wicked witch looking into her crystal ball. i want it to be accurate to the Baum novel not so much the movies and musical. So in the novel, when she looked in her ball – what did she see? did she see them walking on the yellow brick road? anything else?

The Wicked Witch of the West does not have a crystal ball in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. She has an all seeing eye, with which she sees the adventurers coming towards her. Here is an excerpt from the book:
“Now the Wicked Witch of the West had but one eye, yet that was as powerful as a telescope, and could see everywhere. So, as she sat in the door of her castle, she happened to look around and saw Dorothy lying asleep, with her friends all about her. They were a long distance off, but the Wicked Witch was angry to find them in her country; so she blew upon a silver whistle that hung around her neck.”
This is the power which she uses to capture Dorothy and the Lion, and to temporarily destroy the Tin Woodman and the Scarecrow.
If you still want your artwork to depict the witch using a crystal ball, it might be a copyrighted image, but you could still depict her watching the travelers on the Road of Yellow Brick as they do in the movie. Good luck with your artwork!
