What is a non-toxic, safe method for cleaning the mold and mildew in my shower? ?
I am pregnant and I’m trying to avoid using chemicals in the house, as breathing the fumes can have an effect on an unborn fetus (not to mention it’s not too good for me either!) There are many chemical cleaners out there for mold and mildew, but I’m looking for something non-toxic and safe. Any suggestions? Thanks!
You could use a vinegar/baking soda mix. However, depending on the amount of mold, it may take a bit of work. I would just add to the bleach solution, get yourself a mask (from any drugstore), some rubber gloves, and make sure you are fully clothed (as your skin will breath in more than your nose), mix bleach and water together in a spray bottle. Spray down the entire shower, especially along the shower doors if you have them. Allow the bleach to do its thing (several hours.) Follow with a vinegar/water solution in a spray bottle and spray down the entire shower again. Then, rinse very well with plain water. Also, one extremely important addition to any home is an excellent air cleaner. I have a number of them around my house. I put one in the shower with me every time I bathe. It helps cut down on the humidity and dries the shower and bathroom really fast afterwards. Allow it to oscillate. It will be beneficial in minimizing the bleach fumes as well.
