My hp laptop doesnt have thermal paste on cpu?
I am currently disassembling my hp dv1000 to fix the dc adapter but when I removed the cpu fan underneath both chips there isnt any thermal paste only a peice of square pink rubber under the heatsing but no thermal compound on either chips (there seems to be 2 chips), is this normal or should I put some artic 5 on it?
First of all, let me say this: there is no way it was running without thermal paste. The processor would have melted 
It is hard to say without actually seeing it, but I am guessing that this “piece of rubber” is a melted thermal pad. You will need to clean it off with alcohol and a lint-free cloth and then apply a tiny drop (about the size of a grain of rice) on it. Don’t worry about spreading it out, this will be done for you by the heatsink as you put it on.
I am a bit confused about the way you say you have two of them. I have never heard of a laptop with two processors, and can’t imagine how you would be able to deal with all that heat in such a small case. Are you sure that they are the processors, and not some kind of odd laptop cooling system? Do they have any text on the top of them that would give anything away?
