My dogs killed and ate a rattle snake? Will she be ok?
There was a snake in my back yard. All my 4 dogs had ganged up on the poor thing and killed it. The alpha of my dog pack(My Sibe) ate it. By the time I went outside, she was finishing it off and the had already ate the head. It was not a big snake. Probably a baby. Is this bad? Im not sure if I sure take her to the vet. I already checked all my dogs for bites and none of them were bit thank god! Is it bad if she ingested rattle snake poison?
Actually the bite from a baby rattle snake is far worse then an adult rattle snake.
This is because an adult rattle snake deals a measured amount of venom and a baby lets all the venom out in the bite making that bite more toxic.
I learned this the hard way when my Rottweiler was bitten by a baby rattlesnake and endured a long stay in the hospital where she nearly lost her life.
I would be very surprised if one of your dogs was not bitten.
You would not necessarily see the bite but you would notice swelling.
There is nothing to worry about in regards to them eating the snake, just being bitten by it.
