Help! My extremely small puppy has a persistent, hacking cough!?
He is a ten week old Shih Tzu; I have had him for six days. For the past three days, he has had a terrible hacking cough that rattles his entire little body. The breeder we purchased him from keeps saying that it is allergies, and that Shih Tzus have bad respitory systems, anyway. They told me that it will pass and that a vet trip is unecessary. I feel like he needs to see a vet. What should I do ?
Sounds like possibly kennel cough. Did he have any vaccinations when you acquired him? If his appetite and elimination is normal, I’d wait a couple more days. If he’s lethargic, poor appetite, etc., I’d head off to the vet. In this state, there is a puppy lemon law – the breeder would be liable for the vet bills.
