how to make cloth diapers soft?
besides using fabric softner how can i make my cloth diapers soft again? My baby is only 3 months old and I already notice the fabric is a bit rough and stiff.
any suggestions? thanks!
Firstly, it’s very important that you do not use fabric softener. Fabric softener liquid and dryer sheets both form a water repelling barrier on the diapers that actually cause the diapers to become water resistant. Kind of the opposite of what you want to have happen.
Do you dry the diapers on the line? That causes anything to be stiff…try throwing them in the dryer once or twice, that alone should soften them up a bit.
Also, do you wash in hot or cold water? If cold, try hot for a load and see if that makes any difference.
If you’re using a store-bought brand of detergent, you might want to consider switching detergent to something enzyme-free…Allen’s and Rockin’ Green are very good for cloth diapers.
