Stuffed Animal
How can I kick my habit of sleeping with a stuffed animal?
I bought a blue stuffed doggie when I was 16 years old for myself when I was lonely and ever since then I’ve curled up and fell asleep with it every night…I’m 20 years old now and live with my boyfriend, I’m too old to be sleeping with a stuffed animal. I have plently of other stuffed animals but never needed them to fall asleep, this one is so dear to me. What can I do?
I hugged a blanket I got when I was twelve up until, well, this year. I am now 25 years old. Of course, I stopped hugging that blanket when I got re-married and gifted it to my five year old daughter. In my case, I think it’s because I feel secure now, where I never did before, not even in my first marriage which was a big learning curve. Anyhow… you’ll stop hugging that stuffed puppy when you are ready. There’s no point in forcing yourself to “kick the habit” because then you’ll just bury the longing deeper into the recesses of your being. And that would suck! I’m sure your man loves you enough that he doesn’t even care that you like cuddling that doggie. If it bothers him, then he may have some of his own issues to sort out. Anyway… you are never too old to do what you need to do until the point where you no longer need to do it anymore. That’s the only real way to “get over” something. Transcendence.
